Closing Curtains

Yeahh so this is the final assignment I was talking about. A2 smooth paper, colour pencils. Phew. Almost killed me with its complexity - and up to this day my friends and I still can't stop evaluating buildings we see for their complexity and (im)possibility to recreate on paper. Lol.

One photo per day, accruing to a total of 7 (yes, I worked on it for a week. With almost no sleep for 3 days and none at all for the last. Woe is me!).

Realisation

Thinking back, it all started with something pretty mundane; childish, even. Most can claim to have favourite books or authors as a motivator to kickstart their writing passion. I don't have that. Instead what I can claim to have instilled that passion in me was, ironically, not original at all: fan fiction.

So yes, this means I played around with artificial universes and characters not of my own creation. Sometimes I wonder why I hardly dared venture out of this particular sandbox - perhaps apprehension, perhaps an unwillingness to chance the leap - but fan fiction was my main form of expression. It still is, in a way. Fan fiction has a special place in my heart.

Through it, I made many friends who helped me grow, talent-wise (if any smidgeon still exists) and otherwise. I could never thank them enough; because of them, and fan fiction, my writing has grown into what it is today: for once, something I can at least sometimes be proud of.

I will never regret writing.

And for that, I am sorry - sorry for abandoning the one site that was my platform to (somewhat) success. I abandoned FF.net for a myriad of reasons. Generic new fics. No fandom piqued my interest. Time constraints. Et cetera, et cetera.

Well, all that's over now. I'll be going back to revive it in the only way I can - I'll continue writing.

I'm a writer, and I'm proud of it. I should not forget that.

One day, to put my heart into writing...that is my dream - as a writer, an aspirant, a dreamer.

Take Two

My second take on A3 rough paper charcoal drawing of leaves and stones. As aforementioned, I redid it due to some complications with the first one that shaved off a lot of my marks - too much for me to close an eye. So here it is:

I hope I improved but...is that too much to ask for? Considering I did this in three hours - till 4am. Waa.

Stairway to...Insomnia?

This time I present to you the second out of three assignments I have this trimester: a charcoal drawing on A2 rough-tooth paper.

It cost me a fair few days of precious sleep - and the entirety of the night preceding the deadline - and in the end it didn't even turn out like how I wanted it to be. So I'm fairly disappointed, yes. But what can I do? Deadlines are deadlines. Sigh.

Bottle Ball

Whew. Been drowning in assignments and practicals lately! For this practical we had to draw and colour glass bottles, A3 size - with colour pencils. Gosh. Truly glass reflects more than its own colour...perhaps too much for its own good?

Pastel Power

Heeey, for something that looks like crayon (which I was abysmal at when I was young), it ain't half bad. I actually had some fun with it!

This is one part of two practicals we have - the last two for this semester, coupled with our first assignment. Talk about ending it with a bang!

Game of Light and Dark

Now that we're being bombarded by assignments, I finally have something to upload besides just brushing away dust from my writing.

I learned a lot from this piece, and for a drawing without blending (OMG!) it was actually pretty fun! I wouldn't mind doing it again...sans the time limit and worry about scores, of course.

Our last two practicals for this semester will be handed in later this week, so stay tuned for more (scarring) pieces soon.

There's only so much you can do when you're doing a countdown backwards...watch your step in case you fall.

Soothing Pain

Okay, I admit. It hurts. A lot. And this is probably going to turn into an emo post but I'm past caring about facades at this point.

I'm still trying to recover, but recurring events keep pushing me back. Every tiny step I take forward, I get shoved deeper in than I was in the first place. It's tiring; I've lost count of how many times I've mourned my inability to soothe the tumour festering in my soul.

But it's there, and try as I might, cry as I might, I still can't make it go away. It knifes through me like my life's made of butter.

Why am I so weak?

Why is my worst enemy...myself?

I should just let it go. But I can't. And it hurts...so, so much.

Sometimes things aren't what they seem.

There are, people say, many things you can hide behind a smile - what they neglect to mention is that many things can be hidden behind a myriad of other, subtle, barely-there nuances in body language, too.

I hate it when a smile means so much more - negatively. Hate. It. There are already so many things that are double-edged; why must something so simple be double-edged too? And then there are other gestures one tries to hide by saying: I'm sleepy, I'm tired; no, nothing's wrong. Excuses! Have you ever thought about what we feel when you deflect it like that? Do you think it's okay? Well, think again. When you push us away it shows your lack of trust...and we're human. It hurts.

Why must there be a difference between looking happy and actually feeling happy? The mask one wears...it tires, it drains, it cracks, it kills, but still we wear it. I wonder why. Or maybe I do not, for the answer lies also within myself.

What shackles us so?

What indeed.

Contour Drawing

Well, it's been a while since my last post.

This is one of four assignments for semester 2 at uni. We're supposed to measure angle, length, width...the whole nine yards and basically just replicate the model (my junk). I think I measured my hatred for measuring too. Lol.

Though some tiny part of me whispers that I dislike it cuz I don't know how to do it correctly....

So this is the draft for my final assignment for this semester.

We're supposed to redesign a graphic design book's cover - complete with almost 2 dozen sketches, coloured sketches and rationale. AND it has to be mounted. Whoa. Talk about getting serious, man!

The final artwork will be A3 size; I'll try to take a photo once I'm done if I can.

Bunny

So I was bored this other day sometime last week. Then I decided to get permission to paint a pic (uploaded on deviantart), just for fun. Here's the result after 5 hours:

Hi and Practical 6: Dynamic Colour Pixel

Decided to start a blog as suggested by a friend. It'll be an art blog - or at least I hope so, provided I update regularly.



First post will be a WIP of last week's assignment: Dynamic Colour Pixel. We have to colour 1cmx1cm boxes, one at a time, with AT LEAST three colours. Ohmygawd.
